Swap the power cable for a PCI-E version.
Hi everyone, I just replaced my motherboard and it now has extra space for power cables. My PSU isn’t modular and didn’t include additional cables, especially since I’m building a prebuilt PC. I noticed the PCI-E cables for my graphics card are identical and have two connectors. Would it be possible to redirect the cables from the graphics card to the motherboard and vice versa? Thanks for your advice.
They don’t match up because the CPU and GPU power cables have different connectors. You likely have a X570 board, so the extra CPU power connector is meant for extreme overclocking. It only needs an 8-pin connection.
Please share the details of your system: the motherboard and power supply unit brands and models. (Excluding OEM boards like DELL or HP) Your board should have four EPS connectors, typically two, while your graphics card uses PCIe connectors—either 6-pin or a combination of 6+2/8 pins. Let me know if you'd like help identifying the exact models from a photo or specs.
The PCIe power connector fits mechanically into an EPS port, yet it won’t connect properly.
The mainboard is an MSI X470 Gaming Carbon Pro and the power supply is an EVGA 650W.
Are you referring to these? Unless you're LN2 overclocking, you don't need both.
