I clarify whether you wish to move all your files and Windows from the HDD to the SSD, or if you want the Windows activation to remain active during a fresh installation on the SSD.

I believe the person wants to move their operating system to the SSD, which likely needs OS cloning tools. Given how often this can be tricky, I’d probably opt for a clean install instead.

You're working on upgrading your PC by swapping the old HDD for an SSD. Now you're focusing on transferring the operating system and files from the old hard drive to the new SSD.

Consider using partitioning tools like Macrium Reflect or Aomei Partition Assistant. It’s advisable to perform the task on a portable operating system such as WinPE. Macrium Reflect is my preferred choice—it’s user-friendly and usually works well as long as the HDD is in good condition. If the drive has bad sectors or other problems, it can become quite challenging, possibly requiring a raw copy program that handles the data one sector at a time.

I attempted Macrium Reflec, but I’m unsure if I made a mistake during the setup. Windows didn’t start, even after removing old drives and ensuring it booted from an SSD.

Occasionally Macrium Reflect requires a boot fix on the drive before it functions properly. It offers a boot fix feature in Macrium, but this is only present in the portable version. You might also consider using Aomei for a clone; I generally prefer Aomei when Macrium isn't effective, as it often resolves the issue without needing a boot fix.
