Hi, I own an HP Elite Desk 800 G2 tower. I took out the heat sink to put fresh thermal paste in place. While doing so, I noticed the screws were ringing—those are spring screws. Now I’m having trouble replacing them because they don’t seem to be securing properly.
Apply pressure on the screws during tightening, ensuring they grip properly. (The springs are included to prevent excessive force during factory assembly.)
Drive the screw all the way in then proceed to the next. Secure it just until the threads engage. Repeat the process on the opposite side until it locks. Continue this pattern for the remaining fasteners, finishing with the last one. Once everything is running, assemble them gradually in small increments following the same sequence. This should be done in 2 or 3 phases (through the heatsink), similar to tightening lug nuts. You might need to press down on the heatsink with one hand while driving the screws with the other.
However, when I attempt to tighten it, the other one rises.
