It could have been a virus. Sometimes viruses hide as system files to avoid detection. If your PC still functions, you should be fine, but you should do a fresh install of Windows just as a precaution.

Viruses and Trojans frequently disguise themselves as regular system files. A virus that is active won't disappear just by deleting a single file.

Sure, brother. Your setup might be connected to the issue. I’m wondering if the changes you’re seeing are linked to the igfx32 graphics card. When it was active, those problems didn’t occur, but now they do. Let me know if you want to check that.

I removed every file except one. I switched to safe mode to delete the rest, then returned to normal mode.

It's been a while since I last got infected. When I had a virus, I wiped the entire system and started fresh. Before that, I scanned all non-OS partitions, even when I was just unsure. Today’s malware or trojans are really dangerous—they can hide everywhere and cause serious harm or steal your data. Getting rid of a virus by hand is rare, but that's exactly what I do.

You might want to wipe your entire system and start fresh by reinstalling it.

That's the approach I'd take, right?

You can proceed with the reinstall next week and play games during that time—it shouldn’t affect your computer.
