We’ve faced some Wi-Fi problems at home with frequent drops and slow speeds. We upgraded to a 350mbps connection, but it hasn’t fixed the issues. I suspect the problem lies with the ISP’s router unit—a Virgin Media Super Hub 3.0. I’m considering getting a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LR and turning off the Wi-Fi on the Virgin hub. Would that help? Also, if I do get the UAP-AC-LR, would I also need the Unify Cloud key?

I’m likely to assist since WiFi drops are probably linked to the access point rather than your internet plan. Determining if it provides strong coverage throughout your space is hard without knowing its size, the AP’s position, wall thickness, etc. You don’t require a Cloud Key—just a PC to run the UniFi controller during setup, after which you can manage it without further interaction. The controller itself doesn’t need to stay active; you can install it once and keep it running.
