Hey there! I just installed my PC a few days ago and haven’t got a CPU cooler yet. I wanted to check if it would boot, so I turned it on without one. No luck—my motherboard says the CPU can’t run without a cooler. I tried hooking up a case fan to the CPU fan port, but still no signal. I’m planning to buy a cooler soon and wondering if there’s an issue with pressure or if something’s definitely wrong. Also, the CPU is running perfectly at the specs listed for this motherboard: Asus X99-A USB 3.1, Intel i7 6850K. It’s an 80 Plus Gold 1000W PSU and it shows error code 00 on the motherboard. What do you think?

On ASUS boards a 00 often indicates an issue with the CPU, so you might try resetting BIOS and re-seating the CPU along with all power cables. I’m not sure it will cause the same error without a fan, as the problem could be just the cooler not pressing properly, meaning the CPU isn’t being held in place on the motherboard at all.

Without a cooler mounting pressure x99 normally doesnt work. Also dont run a cpu without a cooler they get insanely hot very quickly.

Hey, I tried this too but when I flashed the bios it blinked blue for a few seconds. That seems okay then, it stayed steady without blinking and I’m not sure what that means. Since I got the combo from someone else, I don’t think that’s the issue. The problem was definitely the bios, but I still tried flashing and it worked! Thanks for the tip!

Yes, all the tests confirmed issues with mounting pressure or a faulty CPU.

Or let someone with experience handle it. Focus on maintaining stability rather than rushing into actions that could harm the system.
