the fan activates upon powering on the pc, spinning rapidly before halting after a few seconds during gaming. it doesn’t make noise while connected, and the issue occurred after the warranty expired last year—very unfortunate.

I believe the issue is with MSI After Burner, as it displays two fans instead of three for your GPU.

Even if the motherboard doesn't recognize one, it shouldn't halt operation. Running the AMD utility might restore functionality. For certainty, switch the GPU to its default settings, remove the OC utility, and reinstall drivers. Regrettably, warranty issues are involved. A temporary fix could be securing a fan with a zip tie on the case bracket to direct airflow to the GPU. You should likely find replacement fans on eBay for lasting use.
