Sure, I can assist with cables.
I'm having trouble setting up my new PC. The main issue is with all the case cables. Before I say anything, yes, I've checked the manuals thoroughly. Some of the information was useful, but I wouldn't be here if I could have solved everything by myself. I can't connect the cables when I'm unsure about their placement, and sometimes they're required at all. Please take a look at the attached pictures and let me know how I can assist... Also, what is the P8 cable that came with my PSU? Do I need it? Before I can use the PC, I still have several tasks to complete, mainly related to the cables. Specifically, the GPU, CPU, radiator, and case all need to be connected properly to the mainboard or each other. Here are the specs:
GPU - RX 9070 Sapphire Pure
CPU - Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Board - ROG Strix B850-E
PSU - Straight Power 12 800W
Case - Antec Flux
Radiator - Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360
The cables shipped with the PSU, labeled for VGA, should be used for the GPU (x2 8pin), right? For the CPUs, one uses a power cable with a single connector, while the other has two four-pin connectors. Should I plug it into the PSU and the second one into the mainboard? The ATX main connector is the board, so from there to the PSU. But what about the P8? And where should all the case cables be connected according to the pictures? I'm really confused.
Thanks in advance!
I struggle to connect cables when I'm unsure where they should go, especially if they're necessary at all.
These cables belong to your case's front panel and lighting setup. Are you sure you've reviewed the motherboard manual?
First image, from top to bottom:
Front panel USB3.0 header
Front panel USB Type-C header
Front panel PWR and RST switch headers
Front panel audio header
Second image, from top to bottom:
ARGB header
Any 4pin PWM fan header
Supplemental power via SATA power from PSU.
Please check your motherboard manual; it should be between pages 24 and 29 of the document you shared.
The cables that came with the PSU, marked for VGA, are they intended for the GPU x2 8pin?
Kindly send over the images for the cables you mentioned in your second part of the original message.
The primary USB3 connection should be the USB3 cable fitting into socket U5G_89 on your motherboard. The subsequent USB3.2x2 cable connects to socket U10G_C10. The following two cables are intended for the F_Panel pins on your motherboard; a detailed illustration can be found on page 29 of the manual. The fifth cable seems to be the USB2 connection, which should go into either USB_E12 or USB_E34 sockets as indicated on page 27 of the manual. Cable P8 is likely for the GPU. In the lower image, the top cable features only three holes, indicating an ARGB cable that can plug into any of the three designated ADD_GEN sockets on your motherboard. The four-pin connector is meant for the CPU_FAN jack. The final SATA cable serves as a power connection linking to any SATA power output from the PSU drive cables.
The cables are coming from the case and should be connected to the motherboard. I need to understand where each cable is supposed to go.
I’m unsure about some terms like PWR and RST, ARGB, or what the board controls for RGB or other devices. Is it safe to leave them unplugged?
Does the ARGB setting apply only to RGB, and should I leave it unplugged?
Should I connect a soundcard using the front panel audio header?
What is the purpose of the 4-pin PWM fan header—are these case fans or something else, and where should I plug it in?
I’m unsure about the last cable shown on the second screen; it’s SATA power. Do I need an adapter cable with multiple splits to share power with several SSDs?
The VGA cables are 2x8 pins—should they connect to the GPU, or is there another reason?
Printing a GPU instead of using VGA seems unnecessary.
I’ll check pages 24 to 29.
PS: I installed my dual-RAM in slots A2 and B2 because those slots indicate it should be placed there.
Am I doing something wrong and should I remount?
I don't believe the P8 cable is meant for the GPU since the connections don't provide enough splitting to fit into both GPU power slots. The card has two 8-pin slots but I can't fill them with the P8 cable. As requested, I've added a picture of the VGA1 cable to this thread—should it be the correct GPU cable? The last cable is for the CPU; where should I connect it to the motherboard? Should I plug both CPU cable ends into the mainboard?
Refer to page 40 of the manual for details. The P8 and P4+P4 cables connect to the mainboard, while the PCIe 6+2 cables link to the GPU. A2 and B2 are the appropriate RAM slots; it's recommended to use them first as dual-channel RAM functions optimally, and they are positioned farthest from the CPU cooler for better cooling and airflow.
