Varies by individual. Some refresh every few years, others hold on longer. I usually replace my CPU and motherboard around four to five years, which means I’ll likely need a new board.

First, my concern is outlined in the title. Second, the B350 has not been updated for any model in the latest generation. Third, the B350 bios haven't been released for any 4th-gen vehicle. Fourth, it's likely the B350 doesn't support 4th-gen models.

It depends on who you're dealing with. I update my setup every couple to three years. I'm thinking about adding a 4900x (with at least a 12+ core chip) to my B450 board, but another part of me wants a fresh board so the old CPU can swap in a 6600k for server tasks. That 6600k could then move into a media center or even replace some file server CPUs.

If your motherboard supports three generations, you can still use the top model from the last generation supported. This can provide a 40-50% performance increase. Depending on how quickly mainstream technology evolves, you might be able to rely on certain components for a long time, such as RAM. DDR5 isn't even available in the desktop range yet. In short, it's quite challenging to ensure something stays functional into the future.
