Supported 8TB storage drives that reset to raw format upon restart (Mac Pro 2009 with Windows 10 5.1)
I possess a Mac Pro from 2009 with 5.1 firmware, running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. It features two Xeon E5520 processors and 32GB DDR3 memory at 1066MHz. I'm attempting to combine two 4TB drives into a single 8TB volume using Disk Management. When both are unformatted, the system rejects the spanned volume attempts, displaying RAW errors. After formatting one drive as a 4TB NTFS and extending it, the volume works correctly. Upon restarting, both drives revert to RAW with no data available. Possible reasons for this behavior include firmware incompatibility, improper partitioning settings, or conflicts between the OS and storage configuration.
I installed every available driver I could find. Storage Spaces worked after rebooting, even though it operates as RAID 0—meaning losing one drive would result in total loss. Cloud and off-site backups provide additional protection, so it isn’t a major concern for my needs. Thanks for your assistance.
