Support for i5-10505 Comet Lake Refresh CPU on the motherboard
Hello! I haven't found a suitable solution elsewhere, even MSI support isn't active. I'm the owner of an MSI B460M-A Pro motherboard, which unfortunately doesn't support 11th generation Intel CPUs. My processor has been i3-10100F for the past three years. I'm planning to upgrade and have settled on the Comet Lake Refresh i5-10505 CPU, which is available used for $106. The equivalent i5-10600 model starts at $149, which seems expensive for my system with a low-profile cooler CM200GP. I also looked into i7 options but think they'd be too costly for my build. Before purchasing, I checked the motherboard's support page for compatibility info, but it wasn't listed. I tried other B460 models with Z490 chipsets, but the i5-10505 wasn't available. It seems these CPUs are only sold in pre-built PCs, like the Dell OptiPlex 5090 MT. I'm unsure if my MSI B460M-A Pro will work with this CPU or what BIOS version is needed (currently 1.60, 7C88v16). Anyone here who owns this CPU or knows about compatible boards would be really helpful. Thank you!
Your PSU model is Chieftec Smart SFX-450BS, which means you don't need to replace it for B3/450.
Capture an image of the wattage chart. How long are you using it? >More than a year, I think the PSU has shown itself to be a reliable device. It’s probably just fine after all, RYZENs tend to draw power more efficiently, so the difference shouldn’t be that big from your current i3.
They confirmed the i5-10505 isn't compatible with my motherboard, so I switched to the i5-10600. Installed it today. Temperatures stay between 60-61°C during League of Legends at 1080 Ultra with 144fps, around 50°C for browsing/YouTube. Believe it will handle more than the i3-10100F. This CPU should last me a long time.
