Summary of Rental Equipment Credits
A fresh design announcement on RSI's site explains the new rental equipment system starting with the next AC 1.1 update. In short: you earn Rental Equipment Credits (REC) by competing in ranked AC matches (excluding Vanduul Co-Op and racing) and apply them to rent gear like ships, weapons, and shields for seven days of playtime. Each login counts as one day, and multiple logins on a single day don’t add extra days. You pay 10% of the regular price in UEC and renew at 20% of that amount. Renewals must be scheduled at least seven days ahead. CIG processes roughly 1800 REC per hour, meaning it would take about an hour of play to earn two M4A Laser Cannons. Rented gear can be used across all areas but won’t transfer to PU. Ships include a stock loadout. Updated July 25, 2015 by Napper198
I agree with this decision. I'm also getting a new lawnmower!
Hope they let me dispose of my old Voyager equipment before they might lower the prices in the EU.
This highlights an important detail: REC time doesn't match real-world time. A week in REC isn't automatically a week in actual days because the 7 days aren't required to overlap. If you log in for more than 7 days in a month, it's treated like a single continuous period. The example from Calix suggested earning a Hornet by playing an hour daily for a week, which makes sense if each hour counts toward a 7-day flight. It appears this balances fairly, particularly when others pay $110 to use the same ship in PU and AC.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I made the necessary adjustments.
They intend to handle the melting process as discussed by one of the developers. It's taken seriously in subscriber forums. The cost for vd remains unclear, though many are puzzled about it. Some believe prices might be higher now because you can't afford to lose anything—maybe they'll drop after release. I don't agree with that idea, but I'd prefer keeping uec flexible and open to new options at the beginning.
