Suggestions for Thermal Paste for MSI GF63 Thin 11UC
MSI GF63 Thin 11UC i5 11400H with RTX 3050 4GB and 16GB RAM.
Hi everyone, I've been using this laptop with the specifications listed. It's been nearly a year since I got it, and temperatures seem higher than before. When playing games, the average temperature is between 70-85°C. I'm planning to change the thermal paste for the first time, and I need advice on which type to use because this is my first thermal paste replacement.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
The requirements vary based on the application.
For thicker pastes, higher pressure is needed to spread them evenly; MX-6, for example, is so thick that it can't be spread with a spatula.
MX-6 specifications can be found here: https://www.arctic.de/en/MX-6/ACTCP00080A
However, using ticker paste can make it harder to remove between IHS and the cold plate, causing smearing on the PCB. (But if you apply too little, it works.)
I don’t use a spatula for spreading. For CPUs, I place a small pea-sized amount in the center and use the CPU cooler weight plus screws in an X pattern to spread it.
If the paste is too thin, it flows easily and you might need to spread it before placing the cold plate.
Therefore, if you’re unsure, choose a paste with medium viscosity.
Also, here’s a helpful video on the right amount to apply for a standard CPU: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUWVVTY63hc
If you own a laptop, do you really need thermal paste?
🤔
Laptops often use thermal pads to link multiple heat sources to a single, large heatsink. For instance, similar to dedicated GPUs, where the die has thermal paste but memory modules use pads to connect to the GPU cooler cold plate.
