Suggest a Build for up to $1800 or $1900, excluding any case variations.
Hello everyone, I'm reaching out since I have about $1800 to invest in a complete gaming PC.
I plan to use it solely for gaming, focusing on AAA titles at 1440p resolution, but aiming for over 200fps in competitive games such as Valorant and Apex.
I’m considering a Ryzen 7 7800X3D paired with a Radeon 6950XT or 7900XT (currently priced around $749).
I’d appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. Could you share some recommendations for a full build?
I’ve already started sharing my setup here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XBW4dH.
If you think there are better options than these components, please let me know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The Ryzen 7 7800X3D stands out as the top option for gaming. Intel sometimes leads the pack, but it tends to fall short more often than it succeeds. I believe this model offers excellent value.
For cooling solutions, I own the exact AIO unit I’ve used for nearly six years without any problems. My main suggestion is to opt for the 360 version available here. It’s only a couple of dollars more, and it provides additional heat management features that help keep your processor cooler.
The MSI MAG Tomahawk board is an excellent choice, particularly considering its value. At just $200, it delivers ample input/output ports, WiFi 6E, and other solid features. It’s a solid recommendation.
I’d recommend updating your memory setup. Ryzen performance can be significantly limited by memory kits with high latency, especially those with First Word delays exceeding ten milliseconds. Your current kit has a CAS latency of 36 and a First Word latency of 12. I suggest considering this alternative kit—it’s nearly identical to yours but offers a CAS latency of 30 and a First Word latency of 10, which aligns better with your Ryzen’s potential. Moreover, it supports AMD Expo, ensuring compatibility with your system.
I wouldn’t suggest the Samsung 990 Pro. Its 990 SSDs have had reliability issues, often failing within months of purchase. The 980 Pro isn’t PCIe Gen 5, but it still performs well for an OS drive. For better performance, you might want a hard drive for your game library. You could downgrade your SSD to a 1TB model for general use and opt for something like the Seagate Barracuda 2TB for gaming. If speed is important, consider the Seagate Firecuda or Samsung 870 Evo.
The 7900XT usually outperforms the 6950XT, and there’s no compelling reason to choose the 6950XT given your budget. For an additional $150, you gain more video memory, a newer and faster architecture, a more stable memory bus, and extended driver support. Stick with the 7900XT.
Corsair delivers top-notch power supplies, and they’re worth considering. It’s a solid pick. I noticed your list lacks a case; if you don’t have one from a previous system, Corsair, Cooler Master, or NZXT are excellent alternatives. There are many great brands available, so it really depends on what you prefer.
This should help, take care!
The Intel build features a low-profile RAM configuration to avoid interfering with the dual-tower CPU cooler.
