Worst case scenario, you might want to perform a full reinstall. If there's a bug in the software, it could be really hard to find. Could be a DX10/11 issue, OpenGL, or any subsystem component/driver. At some point a clean windows install eliminates a lot of possible issues and tells you whether you have/had a software or hardware problem.

Can you eliminate the fps drops by reducing the graphics settings? Also, when the CPU maxes out, what are programs are contributing to the increased load?

Here’s the rewritten text:

“Can you eliminate frame rate drops by lowering graphics settings? Also, when does the CPU become overloaded, and which programs are causing this increased load? No, the FPS drop still occurs on low graphics, and it seems only the game is maxing out the CPU. However, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact cause due to the rapid nature of the lag spikes.”

This detailed explanation outlines several potential causes for a slow-loading game and offers solutions focused on optimizing the system’s resources, particularly the CPU/GPU and ensuring compatibility with drivers and security software. It includes troubleshooting steps like checking CPU usage percentages, investigating background processes via MSConfig, and temporarily disabling antivirus software to isolate the problem source. The text emphasizes the importance of driver selection (940MX vs. CPU) and provides a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and resolving performance issues within games.

Please adjust your graphics card settings within the game, specifically focusing on resolution and graphical detail levels. Lowering these can significantly reduce the strain on your CPU. Additionally, check the Nvidia Control Panel to ensure the game is utilizing the 940MX GPU and not a fallback option like the integrated graphics. Monitor the CPU usage during gameplay – if it consistently stays below 60%, you're likely fine. If lag spikes occur, try closing other applications running in the background to free up system resources. Experimenting with different game settings can also help identify specific areas causing performance issues.

smashjohn :
Maybe check your Phys-X settings in nvidia control panel and see if it is set to CPU; if it is, switch it to the 940MX. Otherwise, if the game is loading the CPU to 100%, there is very little you'll be able to do other than take load off the CPU from other sources. Internet browsers can be little CPU/Memory hogs if you have any of those running in the background. Maybe run MSCONFIG to see what else is running at startup that could be disabled. Also, test with your anti-virus software disabled; this can cause spikes if it's grabbing files the game is trying to use.
Hi tried what you suggested. Neither worked
🙁
Also checked the Startup programs and there was nothing out of the ordinary there
