Sudden decrease in frame rate across all games on desktop PCs
Hi,
I just unboxed and installed my desktop about ten months ago for personal use. Back then, I was playing games nonstop and consistently achieved 100-200 fps in triple A titles such as BF1 and Apex. Now, my performance has dropped noticeably, often falling to around 80 fps in games like TF2. I’m wondering if the lack of cleaning over nearly a year—especially since it was stored away—has contributed to the issue, possibly due to dust accumulation affecting up to 100 fps drops.
I haven’t changed my thermal paste since building the PC in 2017. Here are my details:
- Processor: i5-7600k
- Graphics: GTX 1080TI
- RAM: 16GB Corsair DDR4 at 3000MHz
- Power Supply: EVGA Gold 650W PSU
- Operating System: Windows 10
Could this be related to CPU or GPU throttling? Please advise.
Check if you're using Windows 10 version 20H2 or higher. If not, use DDU to remove your GPU drivers and reinstall them with the newest ones from Nvidia's support page. Run the installer as an administrator by right-clicking it. Also, provide the motherboard's make, model, and BIOS version for complete setup.
