Sudden dead GPU?
Sudden dead GPU?
Hello everyone, I'm seeking some advice on this matter. I encountered an unusual problem last night. While unwinding and watching YouTube, my displays went completely dark and showed a "No Signal" message. Around 45 minutes before the issue, I updated my GPU drivers without any problems, and the temperatures were near 40°C at that time. I was still able to hear the video and my friends during the voice call, but nothing I did managed to restore the display. This has been my graphics card for about a year with no previous issues.
I went through several troubleshooting steps for my RTX 4070ti Windforce OC. I removed all components from the case, set up a minimal test bench (CPU, cooler, PSU, RAM, GPU), tested with a known working 600W EVGA silver PSU, ran DDU in safe mode to clear drivers, tried various HDMI and DisplayPort cables, tested multiple monitors, removed the CMOS chip for 60 seconds before reinserting it. Eventually, I used an older RX 560 which worked after a short period.
Although I usually assume a dead GPU, this was just an unexpected failure—no signs of overheating, no lag, just sudden shutdown during light use. Do you have any suggestions or alternative explanations?

Tested with various known working PSUs.
Make, model, and age of the PSU used to help troubleshoot your issue?
Hello! I followed the guidelines when making the changes, thank you!
Check for any error messages, alerts, or notifications recorded in Reliability History/Monitor and/or Event Viewer. Search for records immediately prior to or coinciding with the issues. It might be related to the GPU drivers arriving shortly before they started working...
Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro-P
BIOS Version: F13
There are several BIOS versions still awaiting updates. I plan to update first to F14, then to F19i. You might want to try flashing the BIOS to F14 before proceeding. The Q-Flash Plus button on the back can be used to test if updating helps.
PSU: 850w EVGA Gold
EVGA is the manufacturer, 850W indicates the power rating, and Gold signifies the 80+ efficiency claim. Could you confirm the model number and its age? EVGA often produces units that don’t meet expectations despite being top-tier.
I’ve been using this graphics card for roughly a year without any problems.
Was the RX560 powered by the 850W unit before the RTX 4070 Super was installed?
Tested with a standard PSU (600w EVGA silver, three years old).
I’d prefer to keep the unit unused for now rather than using it for troubleshooting.
