Hey there! I'm just starting out with RAM configuration. About a week back, I built a new PC and used the GPU from my old one. The issue is that my RAM isn't reaching its rated speed of 3200MHz even when I enable XMP. It crashes at lower speeds like 2933MHz. After some manual tuning, I found stability at 2800MHz with certain settings. Then I tried adjusting timings in BIOS and got different results—some timings worked, others didn’t. Now I’m confused about how to get the RAM to run at its full speed. Should I stick with the stable settings or try lowering the timings for 2933MHz? Also, since I mainly play games and care about FPS, am I doing something wrong? My RAM is in the right slot, but moving it changed nothing. What should I do next?

The gap between 2800 MHz and 3200 MHz won’t stand out much unless you’re testing under specific conditions. For most users, especially with an Intel processor, the impact is minimal. In gaming, a small difference might only affect performance by a few frames per second if your system is already limited. Real-world speeds like RAM—say a jump of about 400 MHz—won’t be easily noticeable either.

What about gear 2 at 3200 vs gear 1 at 2800mhz , i know gear 1 is better but where is the line?

Two factors matter—CPU and motherboard. I own a 2400G and 3200MHZ LPX Corsair 16GB RAM, but it won’t reach 3200 anymore; it’s stuck at 2666MHZ. You might need a new MOBO if you want to keep up.

It doesn't make sense to purchase another motherboard; I'll stick with 2800mhz and attempt to adjust the clock speeds.
