Hey everyone. I'm trying to figure out the best networking setup for my roughly 3600 square foot home. Since I'm looking for a strong signal across the space, I'm unsure which gear to buy. Mesh routers seem promising but vary a lot between brands, making it tough to pick the best one. I'm also considering whether to combine a modem and router or go separate ways, and I've heard mixed things about extending Wi-Fi range with devices like the Motorola MG7700. It would be great if someone could suggest what works well and keep costs reasonable. Thanks!

The perfect setup would involve running an ethernet cable from your router to the spots where you need stronger signal. For instance, I use a Netgear Orbi mesh system but rely on ethernet backhaul rather than wireless. From my perspective, there are two benefits: 1. Ethernet backhaul provides a quicker and more stable network (though I found the wireless version performed almost similarly). 2. A mesh system enables smooth handoffs between the router and satellites. Previously, I had a single router and access point connected via ethernet, but the switching between them didn’t function well.

I don't think a wireless setup is feasible, sorry. The Netgear Orbi Mesh system isn't recommended for a strictly wireless configuration.

Your foot size isn't specified here. Could you clarify what you mean?

I really like the Orbi system, especially with the wireless backhaul. But wireless performance can vary a lot depending on the surroundings, making it hard to guarantee success. My home is built with timber framing, which helps a bit. For my space I’d suggest a router plus two satellites, though you know your layout better than I do. The RBK53S model seems like a good option, or you might find a better price if you buy them separately.
