Hello, this is my initial attempt at posting here. I'm uncertain about the best place to ask—whether it's for the operating system or the CPUs—and I apologize in advance if I've made a mistake.

Recently, I discovered an old PC that I plan to prepare for my younger sibling to play classic games on. Because it's quite outdated, I considered two options: unlocking the well-known locked core in Sempron CPUs and purchasing a budget old graphics card (I was thinking of a GT 210).

I want to be clear that I'm aware the machine is very old. However, since it's intended for a kid to enjoy old games, I don't feel the need to buy a new one—it would be simpler to get a fresh one.

After cleaning and applying thermal paste, the PC started working perfectly, with no lag or issues. That's why I decided to research how to unlock the CPU. I attempted the process, but unfortunately, after turning it on and removing the motherboard battery, the system didn't display any image (I'm unsure if it boots at all).

After updating the BIOS to the latest version available for that motherboard, the issue persisted—Windows still didn't recognize the PCIe network adapter. I haven't tried increasing the CPU voltage, as this isn't commonly done just for unlocking, but I've seen others face similar challenges with Sempron, Athlon, or Phenom CPUs.

-MOBO ASRock N68-S UCC
-AMD Sempron 140 2.7Ghz
-2Gb DDR2 RAM
-Generic 450w PSU
-OS: Windows 7 64bit

Please let me know if I missed any details.

The cores were restricted mainly due to performance issues, largely because they failed the test. In certain instances, AMD would lock cores simply to offload CPUs without affecting prices for top models, though this was uncommon—such as with the Phenom 555 to b95, according to my recollection.
