I created this setup some time ago: https://at.pcpartpicker.com/list/83bv6D. After upgrading to an RTX4080 later, it’s still working, though there are a few memory-related problems. Some games or apps seem to use a lot of RAM and crash when Windows flags "Resource-Exhaustion-Detector Resource Exhaustion Diagnosis Events." There was also a warning about the page file being full, even though it’s auto-managed and space is available on the drive. Whatever it is... My concern is: At first I added two more sticks in A1 and B1, then they all showed up in BIOS. After exiting without saving, the system wouldn’t start again—it froze during initialization. When I rebooted, Windows booted normally but kept hanging after almost half an hour. I checked later that all four modules were present in A2 and B2, but if I added more to A1 or A2 it stopped working. After updating BIOS, I tried rebooting from Windows and everything disappeared. This is really frustrating—I only see the RAM size listed in Task Manager, but I’m not sure if it includes the page file (which I set to 32GB). What’s going on?

Identify the brand and model of these modules. For Corsair, check the version printed on the sticks. Ensure the numbers match for correct compatibility. Starting with four DDR5 sticks can be challenging for Ryzen; consider using two 32GB modules to reach 64GB.

I bought the same product from Amazon with the same packaging code. The boxes indicated both Samsung and Hynix chips. In one instance I accessed the BIOS and noticed the manufacturer varied—some had Samsung, others Hynix. I’d liked a 2x 32GB configuration but already owned two 16GB drives. Also, I wonder if it’s unusual for the system to completely fail when only A1 and B1 are detected, or if that’s typical and requires A2 and B2 instead.

Never will ensure consistent performance. Did you actually check the motherboard documentation?

I attempted it, though the A2 and B2 level is marked as a suggested choice when using just two sticks. It wasn't required. I wanted to check if the slots had any problems by trying to boot from the first two slots too.

This situation seems pretty bad, probably only working well at low frequencies. It might be safer to return it and get a proper certified unit, especially for these dimensions. Or risk it by purchasing another copy. What titles are available besides games? Have you enabled background processes other than gaming? Did you disable virtual memory? Is your primary drive nearly full?

It seems the problem lies mainly with the different chip maker, even though we’re using the same product from Corsair. That’s quite frustrating. I’m stuck on getting past to any settings where I can control frequencies—my boot hangs up before I reach the BIOS. I’d rather not list the programs. I haven’t enabled virtual memory and have 125GB free on C. My biggest concern is actually running out of physical RAM.

Mismatched RAM won't function no matter what the sellers say—it doesn't just depend on appearance. The CPU won't be fooled either. Make sure you get a compatible 2x32 kit from someone other than Corsair.
