Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with my recent build. The system gets really noisy during gameplay, and it takes a long time for temperatures to fall once the game ends. My setup includes Corsair 4000x, AMD 5900x, Gigabyte RTX 3080, and a Corsair H100i Elite LCD with a 240mm size. There are three 120mm fans at the front drawing air in, an AIO fan at the top extracting it, and one more 120mm fan at the back releasing heat. I've been keeping the idle temps around 60-65°C. When I start a game, temperatures jump to about 75-80°C, but when I idle, they stay near 40°C. In iCUE I was adjusting fans to "Quiet" mode, but it still spins at around 1500rpm during games, which is the source of the noise. Changing the fan speed doesn't seem to help much. I even tried setting a fixed 1000 RPM manually, but I reached 90°C while playing. After shutting down for ten minutes and switching to "Balanced," the fans still spun at 1400rpm, coolant dropped to 39°C, and CPU hit 55°C. The noise is now unbearable. This issue started recently. I've tried fresh thermal paste, cleaned the fans and radiator, but nothing worked. I'm starting to avoid gaming on this rig because of the constant fan noise.
How old is the h100? When was the last time you removed dust? What’s your room temperature? It’s around 40°C in the liquid during idle, which should be 5-10°C higher than normal. This might indicate a coolant flow problem. Sometimes the fluid in AIOs can become clogged and restrict heat transfer. The solution is to replace the cooler. I suggest using an air cooler—top models will handle this well without issues.
I purchased the H100 in December 2021, making it just two years old. It seems this might be my first time taking out the fans and thoroughly cleaning the radiator. I usually clean them when they start getting dusty, though. The dust accumulation on the radiator wasn’t too severe. The room temperature is about 25°C, which is mildly warm. If it’s an AIO model, would Corsair issue a replacement? I’d be really frustrated if I had to swap out my nearly £300 cooler after only two years.
