Ok guys so here is the thing: i recently bought a TV for my Room and i want to build a cheapo PC connect it that TV to stream games using Steam In-Home Streaming from my main PC(See signature for details). I already have AC Router and planning to buy a AC PCi-e card for that said PC, so besides that... Q1: Is there anything else i need to take into consideration? Q2: Does it make a difference if i choose AMD or Intel on the new PC, if so which CPU from the respective brand would you use?(considering all it will be doing is H264) Q3: Any other hardware considerations i should know off, RAM, etc? Please anyone with experience with Steam In Home Streaming, some feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Obtain an Ethernet cable and link your primary computer to your Steam device directly rather than relying on Wi-Fi.

My laptop is an i3 with 4GB RAM and it handles Steam OS streaming without issues.

I own a mid-range AMD APU laptop that handles in-home streaming without issues. You don’t need a high-end system—both Intel and AMD work here. Check my previous specs for In-Home Streaming setups. Connecting via Ethernet and linking both devices to the same network will give you the best performance. Even with Wi-Fi, some latency may occur, which could be noticeable depending on the game.

With In-Home streaming, the connection takes priority over the device itself. People note you can work well on budget laptops or PCs, but a wired link greatly reduces lag and improves video quality. Go for a Gigabit connection if possible.

Streaming Steam at home is quite straightforward, we tried it last week at a friend’s place. The PC we used had a custom CPU (FX8120) running at 4.0 GHz and a Sapphire 7950X with 2GB OC, 1250 cores, 1550MHz memory, and 8GB RAM. The game client was an iButton Power CZ-28 laptop with an A10-5750m quad-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz and 16GB of RAM. We used a standard 50-60 dollar wireless N dual-band router from Walmart. We played games such as Brothers, La Noir, and Half-Life 2, and we managed to play everything in 1080p resolution. For La Noir, we had to lower some settings but still maintained 1080p. The experience was smooth with no dropped frames and a response time between 30-50 ms. Over Ethernet performance would be excellent. Overall, it was a very easy setup and a great single-player gaming session.
