Streaming Sucks In my House, could it be my router?
I've tested various cables of different lengths, but the streaming remains poor. I'm not connecting them to a power outlet. The PC-to-Router cable is 50ft Cat 6, and the Router-to-SteamLink cable is also 50ft Cat 6. Both cables function correctly. With the Xbox, I even used shorter cables and turned off all other devices so only the two were active, yet the quality stayed bad.
In your test you connected the desktop to the router via a 1-foot cable and then linked the Xbox through that same connection. Streaming from the Xbox to the PC was problematic, and streaming from the PC to the Xbox also failed. That sounds unusual. It might be the router that’s having trouble handling the traffic, especially since it should handle a 100 Mbps connection without issues. If your router is faulty, it could be one of the worst in recent years. You could test by connecting the Xbox and PC directly together, bypassing the router, and manually setting their IP addresses and subnet masks. This might resolve the issue. Streaming performance would depend on a stable internet connection, so consider that when trying this method.
Attempted establishing a direct link with several cables and utilized two routers as switches via IP tricks, connecting both to the LAN ports while disconnecting the internet. The Xbox required internet access for streaming, so I had to plug it in. I also tried a direct PC connection to an Xbox One using IP tricks, but both attempts produced poor quality.
It seems like the connection still wasn't working even without the router. Are you thinking the issue might be with the Xbox or your PC? You mentioned trying a Steam link on your PC, but the quality was poor. Could there be a problem on your computer side? Could you share your PC specifications? Do you have another PC available for testing?
