I chose to move away from XP completely and added LM19, which is performing well so far. I installed various programs for LAN compatibility but am missing a key feature: a music player. The built-in one didn’t work and I removed it (storage is tight). I now use Clementine, recommended by a friend, though it’s slow due to its graphical interface. I need a solution that supports .wma and .mp3 files only, no video or other formats. The GUI shouldn’t matter much, but it must handle a library, manage playlists if desired, be lightweight, and run smoothly on a 1.4GHz CPU with 1GB RAM.

VLC isn't functioning properly, and you were mistaken about Mint including third-party codec support.

Tried it recently, performance is too poor—starts in about 30 seconds and the audio glitches or cuts. I understand my laptop is slow, but this isn’t normal. The XP version ran smoothly.

MPlayer is part of the puppy Linux distribution. If it fails, it’s likely not recommended to use Mint.

It functioned properly but included unnecessary elements such as video playback, which Mint already handles. I discovered the player at https://cmus.github.io/
