My husband recently upgraded his PC, but the only game that still lags on stream is Apex Legends. We’re struggling to identify the issue unless he reduces his frame rate from 240hz to 144hz. We’ve adjusted settings, disabled game mode, and tried various fixes, but it doesn’t seem to work. Any suggestions? His new build includes a 5900x CPU, Aorus x570 motherboard, 64GB RAM, a 3090 GPU, and we’re streaming from Streamlabs.

Windows handles tasks based on priority. When two tasks share the same level, the one with focus (like a game) gets higher priority, while the other (streaming/encoding) is ignored and its CPU cycles are taken. In OBS, adjust the task priority in advanced settings to the highest value so Windows understands you want it to run smoothly even when focused elsewhere. It's recommended to use nvenc instead because it uses less CPU power—not just due to core limitations but because it causes fewer disruptions to Windows. If OBS priority settings aren't sufficient, begin encoding, open Task Manager, sort by CPU usage, and locate the...

Windows handles tasks based on priority. When two tasks share the same level, it favors the one currently focused (like the game window), ignoring the other (streaming/encoding). This can cause performance issues. In OBS, adjust the task priority in advanced settings to the highest value so Windows understands you want normal operation even when focused elsewhere. Using nvenc is recommended because it has a lower CPU impact, not just due to core count but because it interacts less with Windows. If OBS priority settings aren’t sufficient, begin encoding, check Task Manager, sort by CPU usage, identify the nvcontainer.exe using the most CPU and set it to real-time. With a third-party tool like processhacker, you can save this configuration for easier management.
