Stream content from a PVR on your PC to your TV without cables, even while gaming on the same machine.
I’m working on a gaming PC and also want to ditch cable TV. I’ve been considering getting a tuner card with an antenna and running a PVR on the PC. Can I wirelessly stream from the PC to my TV even when they’re in different rooms? For example, my wife could watch her recorded shows while I play games elsewhere. I’m open to using a Chromecast, Roku, or similar device. Do you know what hardware or software would make this work smoothly? I want everything set up so she can still enjoy her shows without hassle. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum. Regarding wireless technology, it falls well below ideal standards—either you're significantly reducing quality or introducing high latency. Unfortunately, wireless isn't reliable enough for this use case. It's smarter to use a long HDMI cable and hide it from view. Make sure to check your topics in the top right corner, Caddy400ex.
You could use software that lets you stream both your gaming and other content simultaneously, rather than relying on a single setup. There are options for managing multiple displays or using streaming services to handle different tasks at once.
From afar, nothing seems perfectly ideal. But I suspect you might have misunderstood your request. You're likely looking to stream video files from your PC to a TV. If that's the goal, installing Plex server and using a Chromecast should get you going for around fifty dollars. Having a dedicated HDD would make things easier, but if you already have one, the process will be straightforward.
We planned to eliminate the cable service and run the PC with a tuner card and antenna. This would let us record TV shows onto the HDD and play them on the TV while gaming on the same machine through the main monitor. I thought it might be simpler than buying a separate HTPC, though it required convincing my wife to build one. I also considered dedicating a 1TB HDD for recordings. The distance is expected to be around 15 to 20 feet. Since we’re relocating soon, I’m still uncertain about the final setup.
