Hi everyone, I previously edited a video using Blender and rendered it on Windows 10. After finishing one session, I attempted another edit but Blender kept crashing. Eventually, the game also stopped working after some time without any error messages. I checked the Windows Event Log and saw an indication that RAM was nearly full—59 out of 64GB used. I tried clearing the cache with RamMap, which freed up about 15GB, but then 40GB seemed to be consumed elsewhere. After a restart, I saved all my workspaces and turned off the PC to confirm. Once restarted, 40+ GB of RAM remained active, and a resource monitor showed this pattern. It looks like a possible memory leak. Unfortunately, I can't run Memtest on my system, so I'm limited to using Windows' built-in tool. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can't start memtest because the system doesn't meet the required specifications. Here are your details:

Consider using the Process explorer in Sysinternal's suite for analysis. A driver or core system component might be leaking memory that isn't obvious in standard tools like Task Manager or Resource Monitor. It's unlikely it's a physical RAM issue, but if crashes happen even when RAM is available, run a memory test. The built-in Windows tool 'whos' logs results in the Event Viewer, and your BIOS may include a memory tester.

I actually carried out that step. The logs indicated the RAM wasn't just full, but related to AMD Adrenalin. A driver update was installed, and after a restart, the RAM showed only 7GB. It’s unclear how AMD handled 30+ GB of RAM that remained active post-restart. I suspect there might be a problem with AMD affecting Blender performance. I’ll keep monitoring this and, as you suggested, run a system intern memory test tonight. Here are my PC specifications for your review.

I believe the needed component is Fat16. Avoid using efat or ntfs.

The logs never mentioned this, what exactly are you asking about? It seems unrelated to memtest. I’m not sure what you mean, but it could be a driver issue. A 7GB memory usage when idle is quite high, though Windows tends to expand memory if needed. It might be normal since I haven’t used 64GB before. A good test would be adjusting memory settings in msconfig to see if usage drops, or consider a clean install if you have time.

I rather meant after researching what the log gave me, here is the log in xml: - <Event xmlns = "http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event" > - <System> <Provider Name = "Application Error" /> <EventID Qualifiers = "0" > 1000 </EventID> <Version> 0 </Version> <Level> 2 </Level> <Task> 100 </Task> <Opcode> 0 </Opcode> <Keywords> 0x80000000000000 </Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime = "2024-04-01T15:54:48.6866437Z" /> <EventRecordID> 53869 </EventRecordID> <Correlation /> <Execution ProcessID = "0" ThreadID = "0" /> <Channel> Application </Channel> <Computer> DESKTOP-DHNB6CM </Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData> <Data> dwm.exe </Data> <Data> 10.0.19041.3636 </Data> <Data> 6e55ef4a </Data> <Data> KERNELBASE.dll </Data> <Data> 10.0.19041.3996 </Data> <Data> b756c9ff </Data> <Data> c00001ad </Data> <Data> 000000000012d952 </Data> <Data> 1e8d44 </Data> <Data> 01da84453c0761b3 </Data> <Data> C:\Windows\System32\dwm.exe </Data> <Data> C:\Windows\System32\KERNELBASE.dll </Data> <Data> 4721eb1c-aa6d-4244-afe3-7f13560852da </Data> <Data /> <Data /> </EventData> </Event> As mentioned, I was rendering a video, which triggered the RAM useage and it never got freed up again by the AMD driver. At least this is my conclusion with the event/error log and the issue being fixed after an AMD driver update. I have two hardware monitors (AMD, NZXT) running on startup and I opened Discord as well, this has increased the RAM most likely to 7 asap.

Flash drives must be smaller than 32 GB for the BIOS to recognize memtest.
