I recently installed a new computer and considered using the same drives from your previous setup. It seems the BIOS is only recognizing them but isn’t allowing booting. The system specs include a Ryzen 7 5700X, GTX 1650, 600W PSU, and an Asus Prime B550 Plus motherboard with TeamGroup RAM (16GB total, two 8GB sticks). Storage consists of the built-in hard drive and one external drive. I’ll share photos of the components later. Your CPU temperature stays at 75°C in the BIOS—this could indicate a cooling issue or something else you should investigate.
Could your port be acting up and are there additional SATA connections available on your board?
This setup originates from the Legacy era, not UEFI. Newer systems typically won't boot from a Legacy installation unless you enable it, and most modern machines don’t support it at all. It seems Ryzen requires UEFI booting, so you’ll likely need to perform a complete reinstall.
You need to connect a USB drive and reinstall Windows. It might seem confusing with the BIOS issues, but it’s a common step for a fresh setup.
Yeah, I just installed from a USB drive. I’m hoping you have another computer ready to help with the setup. A fresh install is better when switching from Intel to AMD because their drivers are quite different. Start by booting from a Linux USB—Ubuntu or Linux Mint works best. Move any files you need to another storage device before installing Windows. Clear the CMOS either by touching the pins on your motherboard (if you have one) or by removing the battery, turning off the power supply, and holding the power button for about 10 seconds to reset the system.
