I noticed you referenced my subject and it seems you’ve done thorough research. From what I recall, securing a 10940x was quite challenging. I dedicated several weeks scanning numerous websites, checking frequently in hopes of finding it. I almost missed it on Newegg early on, and after reviewing stock updates for the 10980xe, I gathered some details. Intel has faced significant production challenges for years, particularly with their HEDT series, and the 10980xe is especially hard to come by. They sometimes announce chips that aren’t ready for release, and the pandemic added further complications. Profit margins for the 10th generation are slim, making it rare to find a unit for under $1200. For me, after weeks of searching, I finally spotted the 10940x at Best Buy for its advertised price—an excellent deal! It was one of the few times anyone managed to buy it. In short, this release was more of a marketing event than a genuine market surge. Intel’s market position has weakened, and they’ve struggled with manufacturing issues, especially on the 14nm process. They offered discounted versions to encourage reviews, but overall earnings from these chips remain limited. Good luck with your search for the i9, and sorry about the shipping delays. - Quadrum

I'll admit, if you've looked at those benchmarks, you shouldn't be too surprised by the 9980XE. Its performance is almost exactly the same, and once you push it to higher speeds, it's nearly impossible to tell the difference. You mentioned you're not looking for alternatives, but in reality, it feels more like a different name for the same CPU.

I didn't review this product—purchased it from a shop in California in February. It seems the manufacturer might be struggling with consistent performance, especially with full-fat dies reaching advertised speeds. My unit is holding up well at 4.9 all cores and stays cool under heavy loads. On the other hand, some users say it feels similar to a 9980XE, which you should be able to find. I bought it because I already owned an X299 and didn’t want another platform, but had a desire to upgrade from my delidded 7960X.
