Hey there, I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. The CPU prices are only a few pounds apart, and both the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 3600X are suitable for gaming and streaming. Also, I'm thinking about getting a motherboard recommendation since I plan to update my BIOS.

No one will recommend a 2700x since it's only 10% lower IPC. You might get slightly better frame rates at 3600x. I usually stick with 2700x on a 4K TV as an HTPC and it performs well enough for streaming, possibly even 2060. It's a tough decision—more threads or more epeen? I can't help you. I'm just as unsure as you are.

Are you requiring 8 cores for content creation tasks? The MSI MAX series is the only one I'm aware of—there might be others—that support auto-3xxx compatibility.

They’ll deliver similar results but the 3600 offers more value compared to the 2700x in terms of cores. While the 2700x has an edge in IPC and FPU, the 3600 excels in overall performance. In the end, it should work similarly for most tasks.
