Hey everyone! I swapped my Intel i9 13900K for a non-K 13900 chip and installed an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 with Arctic M-6 paste. I'm running my MSI MAG Z790 ATX motherboard with a Cinebench test. I'm curious—given these CPUs tend to get hot, is this normal? Could it be due to insufficient thermal paste or uneven spreading?

You should have checked if it’s typical before purchasing another CPU. Also, the newest Ryzen models can handle those temps as well.

The package power varied during the test with the previous chip. The new chip performed reliably, and all thermal paste application seemed correct. RPM readings were within expected ranges. Ambient temperatures were stable throughout the session. It’s worth checking several factors before purchasing a new CPU, but these issues are usually manageable.

Core deltas matter if you want the processor to perform optimally. You need strategies to ensure even cooling across those cores. I discovered that the i9 isn't only costly to purchase, but also challenging to cool effectively.

I got an amazing deal for the 13900 and that is why I chose to buy it! The power was slightly (~50W) higher with the old chip. Cooler and pump verified. I don't know how to check if I used "enough" thermal paste, but I went the "pea sized amount at the center" route. Ambient temps are around 40 degrees Celsius. Like I mentioned, I bought the new CPU because of the price I got it at, and not because my old CPU had issues! I see, my main concern is about my thermal paste application. I am trying to understand if I have applied it correctly. If I have and these are the temps, then I am okay with it!

No, I don’t limit myself to Cinebench. Temperatures during gaming or other tasks vary based on the specific workload.

Yes, ambient temperatures typically reflect CPU temperatures during idle periods. With the room at 26°C, you should see stable readings.

Ambient temperature describes the surrounding air around the PC. The room's temperature shown in the images. Word describing proximity to something.
