You should upgrade to Windows 10 first, then reinstall Windows 7 after changing the motherboard. This way you can use the free upgrade option without losing your current data. Make sure to back up important files before proceeding.

If your Windows 7 activation is tied to upgrading to Windows 10, which Microsoft no longer offers for free after a while, you can install Windows 10 on the new computer and enter your Windows 7 key to enable it.

Relies on your Win 7 license type. For OEM or systembuilder units, apply the original software first on the new equipment before moving to Win 10. With a complete retail key, you may upgrade to Win 10 prior to performing a full installation.
