Many SteamVR titles also work with Oculus. You might want to try adding "-oculus" in the launch settings. It seems like there’s a clash between Oculus and Steam VR software. I’ve switched to the Oculus app on my PC and used the “set Oculus as the VR runtime” option, which resolved the issue for me. However, this causes both SteamVR and OculusVR to run simultaneously, slightly lowering performance. If your game supports either Oculus or SteamVR, enabling the Oculus launch option can boost performance by around 20%.

@Origami Cactus Thanks for your response. Upon checking, Oculus was already selected as the active runtime in the Oculus app. Usually I rely on OpenComposite to work around this issue when playing IL-2 Sturmovik, though it doesn’t always help every game. I’ve questioned whether OpenComposite might be contributing, but since the problem emerged later in my usage, I doubt it. After testing with launch options for Oculus, it does assist with compatible titles, so your suggestion was useful. I hadn’t considered that before. Still, SteamVR keeps crashing whenever I try to open it directly.

Yeah, it's odd since I have a comparable configuration and SteamVR functions properly. I recall it didn't perform well initially, but after making minor adjustments, it functioned correctly. I don't remember the specific changes I made.

I'm facing the same issue in all games I play (Elite Dangerous, No Man Sky, Alyx...) the time keeps getting longer. I've tried several fixes: turning off Motion Reproject, installing older NVidia drivers (even the first one from November 2020), disabling Wi-Fi, and using SteamVR Beta. I also have a 3070, Ryzen processor, Gigabyte Aorus MB, Windows 10. But in my case it's an HP Reverb G2. I haven't played VR for over three months and this hasn't happened before. Do you know of a solution?

I discovered a solution that functions perfectly, simply replacing steamVR with openXR. Very easy to set up and install. You can download the installer directly from their GitHub page! Fixed a lot of troubles I was dealing with (though I haven’t tried the Steam VR home portal yet).

Arrived late to the gathering, though it might prove useful later. The issue stemmed from not having the CPU graphics driver for my 7800x3d. I tried AMD Adrenalin and restarted the system; it appears to function now.
