The current version of Minecraft for PC isn't compatible with any controller, I believe.

Very likely, Steam is the only platform they support for playing their games.

It functions similarly to a typical Linux operating system, featuring Steam Big Picture as the default display. Users can easily switch back to the desktop and run any Linux programs.

It seems the software is designed to work with the Xbox 360 controller, as there exists a version tailored for that console. Therefore, the PC controller should function properly.

Thats why I said 99% as I wasn't completely sure. Alright, though I doubt he will be able to use a controller with it without some 3rd party tool.

It's an Ubuntu-based system with enhanced Steam features and a custom skin. You can run Minecraft, but using the 64-bit Oracle Java version is recommended for better performance. There are mods available for controller support, though I wouldn't suggest it.

Ensure Java is installed.
Download the .jar launcher from minecraft.net.
Execute it once, then transfer all files from the Windows copy.
Always use the .jar launcher each time to run Minecraft, remembering to reinstall mods.

I understand your request. I aim to provide the information in a way that fits the Steamo interface.

Steam OS manages games differently than Windows. While you can add non-Steam games to the Steam interface by selecting their .exe files, its Linux foundation means it may process .jar files another way.
