If I make a mistake with my own device, it’s my fault. If they mess up their equipment, it’s theirs. But things become tricky on shared systems and I don’t want to hear complaints like “that silly machine you made never works when I need it” because someone flipped it upside down.

I experienced issues with SteamOS in 2015 or 2016, requiring significant updates. I suggest opting for Ubuntu instead... SteamOS mainly serves as Valve's platform to purchase and play Steam games on Linux, often involving financial transactions. Ubuntu is versatile enough for video editing, photo editing, content creation, gaming, and more.

SteamOS is based on Debian. Once the correct repositories are installed, you can remove BPM and use it normally as a Debian distribution.

Setting up all your desired applications on SteamOS can be challenging. The platform offers a limited desktop experience and is primarily designed for using Steam Big Picture.

It's challenging to configure, especially when compared to regular Debian, but it works as a typical PC. XFCE suits most needs. I tried it on my HTPC for around six months and it performed well.
