You're planning a new setup and considering Windows for now. You're curious about using Steam OS—since it seems like a top Linux choice for gaming—but also want to know if it can run regular web browsing, office apps via WINE, or if it's mainly for gaming. It’s a good question about flexibility versus specialization.

It turns into a basic terminal if you need something like this; installing Ubuntu would help.

Just set up Linux since most SteamOS games run smoothly there as SteamOS is built for Linux

It mainly offers the same features as Steam’s overall experience. There’s an integrated web browser, though that covers most productivity needs. The rest focuses on gaming. You can also find affordable Windows versions from platforms like G2A. That’s interesting...

You can get the insider preview for free by downloading it. The main condition is that you shouldn't believe bios is a plant-based fuel, and it looks like Microsoft will continue allowing its use past the Windows 10 launch.

Steam OS is essentially a Linux version tailored for consoles. I'm a fan of OpenSUSE and Kubuntu, both solid choices, but Steam is nearing its final Debian release. Consider Kubuntu instead. You might also try other Ubuntu-based distros, though I’m unsure why Elementary doesn’t work with them—Chrome and Steam seem to clash there.
