They obtained it from Steam and created exclusive agreements that block its sale on Steam. They appear less stable compared to Steam, have released significant data in recent years, and have experienced numerous leaks. Additionally, they lack Linux support and have even sabotaged Linux support efforts.

I'll continue using Steam for now, I don't back a company that relies on exclusivity deals just to attract more users. Really not consumer-friendly, especially with the Fortnite funds they could invest in a better launcher than Steam offers.

A lot of controversy surrounds this situation. The main focus seems to be the removal of Steam-announced games in favor of Epic. All other announcements are dismissed as nonsense. It's worth noting that Steam also gathers information, and it had its own issues in the past.

If you need guidance, honestly just investigate on your own. Individuals tend to rush at others' viewpoints—both sides of the Epic debate—and often share only surface-level details. What I can offer is: watch the videos related to it (there are many), then read articles about health competitions and other market topics. Eventually, you might decide whether it matters or not. Since Steam hasn’t taken action on this, what remains is personal opinion, acceptance, and frustration.

Good luck.

This seems likely to be beneficial in the long term, possibly prompting Valve to shift attention away from the DOTA money printer and introduce fresh projects like Portal or Half-Life again, offering them as exclusive experiences.

People generally avoid downloading a new launcher. You can include games as non-Steam titles in Steam, keeping your friends list intact. Every store requires exclusives to attract customers. Blizzard offers Starcraft 2, Valve provides Dota 2, Netflix has its own content, and so on for various services. The only place where you'll find a single store with everything is in a closed-off, non-competitive market like consoles or phones. I recall when Steam had no competition on PC, it didn't even support returning games.

Steam does offer some appealing features, such as the big picture mode.

You'd need to discuss with each person about the issues they face online. I've never encountered any problems with Steam, Epic, UPlay, Origin, GOG Galaxy, Blizzard, or Game Sessions. The only issue I have is with Game Sessions, as it prevents monitoring temperatures and usage through MSI Afterburner. That's why I usually avoid playing the free games they offer. The day I finally get Hitman Absolution, I uninstall Game Sessions. Regarding Epic exclusives, if they aren't free or worth the cost, I'm unlikely to discover them.

Alongside previous discussions, several crowdfunded titles quickly secured exclusivity agreements with Epic shortly before launch. This shift has caused disappointment among many backers who felt misled, turning a project initially promoted as a "passion project needing only a small investment" into a financially lucrative product for the developer.

The situation is further complicated by developers who publicly acknowledged making the pact despite anticipating negative reactions, treating supporters as expendable once corporate funds are involved.

You can activate the peer guardian, launch epic launcher, and observe the results firsthand.
I recently moved to a pfSense Linux PC to block connections from China using pfBlock, and it functions excellently. Only allow access from China when browsing web pages, or epic launcher has been running for about a minute or two. I consider this a remarkable coincidence, though I’m not an expert enough to confirm if it’s always the case.
