Today I received the Steam link. I really liked it, but then I noticed it mistook my Xbox controller for a keyboard and mouse. I was playing FIFA 17, which isn’t a Steam game. My questions are: 1) Is this issue only because the game isn’t Steam? 2) My router is upstairs, so I can’t just move it downstairs. Even then, it gives two more answers. 3) My PC doesn’t have a wireless card—it needs to be connected via Ethernet. 4) If I moved it, the Steam link wouldn’t work because there would be no internet.

It seems FIFA works with controllers at the native level. The router or PC connection isn't clearly defined in your message.
