In Arma 3, Squad, and DCS World, an SSD is generally necessary for good startup performance and to avoid loading delays in objects or textures. It would be best to create a separate Steam install library on the SSD for games that significantly impact performance, then decide where to install them.

Good lord Arma 3 is really terrible with spinning rust. Tower Unite is another example that definitely needs an SSD. It looks like the more CPU and storage speed you add, the better it performs.

When playing 10 different +60gb games in one week, a HDD is likely the better option.
If you only need to install and play a few games, an SSD is the clear choice.

I just set up several Steam libraries. Some games perform better with SSDs than others, so a quick search online usually helps. I have two SSDs and one HDD, and I keep a Steam library on each.

Thanks for your help, I decided to purchase a 1TB 860 EVO SSD to transfer them. Lucky for me, Steam Library Manager makes it much easier—moving each file individually would be very difficult.

I moved my best-selling games and VR experiences from the HDD to the SSD. 'Flat screen' titles or those I play rarely are still stored on the HDD.
