Steam issues on Ubuntu version 16.04 (Mesa Drivers)
I'm using Lubuntu 64 bit (likely 16.04) and followed the steps you shared. I downloaded Steam from steampowere.com and installed OBS Studio via their Ubuntu instructions. Since OBS only supports CPU encoding, I looked for ways to enable software encoding. I followed the MESA driver installation guide and completed only the initial part of the tutorial. After that, I tried launching Steam again, but it didn't work properly. It seemed to function better once the Mesa drivers were installed and the system restarted. I also searched online for solutions, but couldn't locate the specific folder mentioned in a reply from another user. My PC runs an Intel i5 with 4GB RAM, an AMD R9 GPU, and I prefer using Windows for its simplicity.
Find ways to access concealed directories and restore the drivers.
It seems downloading Steam from their site on Linux isn't always ideal. A quick search might reveal a command-line installation method. Want to try that?
It functioned before, but this attempt didn't succeed and I'm puzzled. I also attempted to install Steam using sudo, but the package wasn't located. It was quite strange.
It functions properly now *please hope it works* I discovered in LuBuntu you need to take certain steps to reveal hidden folders. I didn’t see any but I simply copied the folder and removed the file as suggested here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/771032/s...-16-04-lts I didn’t run any terminal commands. Instead I just pressed the delete key while the file was highlighted. ... now to check downloading and verify if the games operate.
It seemed difficult to locate the software by checking the games section or using Steam. I just installed Lightworks, so I haven’t tried any games yet and haven’t found a solution for OBS not encoding videos with the GPU. I plan to test it now and will update if more problems arise.
Tomb Raider 2013 ran smoothly on LuBuntu using the Mesa drivers shown in the tutorial. To install Counter Strike Global Offensive I had to use a specific guide: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/dis...074/?ctp=4 I started the process on page 4. Since I’m using a derivative of Ubuntu, I followed the Ubuntu version recommended in the guide. The settings from my Windows CS:GO installation didn’t transfer to my Linux machine, so I’ll have to copy them from the old games drive where I installed CS:GO during Windows 10. (I’m hoping they aren’t encrypted so only Windows can read them.) Both games loaded quickly, usually within a few minutes. Mine took about a minute (60 seconds), though I can’t confirm the exact time for you.
