I have tried almost everything I can. I am running Windows 7 Professional. I connected directly to my modem, I deleted appcache, I reinstalled steam, deleted all but Steam.exe, restarted my PC, checked my firewall all to no results. The only thing I did differently when this happened days ago was install virtualbox but I have since uninstalled it and nothing was fixed. I have an Intel WiFi card and use no programs that I know of known to interfere with Steam. Any help would be highly appreciated. I have been waiting for days.

Typically I click cancel then start using the app. Also check the link at https://www.issteamdown.com/

I hope it works out. A complete Windows reinstall appears to be the best remaining choice.

It hasn't really made a difference from what I've noticed. The only change that helped was switching from 7 to 8.1. Upgrading my broadband did work too—Steam runs smoothly now, and I can use Origin and GoG together with Steam. Still, Uplay doesn’t perform well overall.

Origin is the sole solution I’m using right now. I restored Steam once more and it resolved the issue.
