The initial launch conditions included a condition, which explains its presence in the Steam catalog. Almost right away it was canceled due to the high volume of players joining. After about a day, most users were only prompted once to connect their account, and they could bypass that later. Sony’s PSN store and help center clarified that a PSN account isn’t mandatory for playing any PlayStation titles on PC. They are currently working on resolving this issue. Many believed this because purchasing the game allowed them to play without registration for extended periods, supported by FAQs stating no account was needed. This reasoning also aligned with the fact that the game was available in regions where PSN wasn’t supported, making it clear that PSN wasn’t a strict requirement.

They seem to have updated the terms of service recently... as I mentioned earlier, the quoted content is missing now, replaced by "may require a PSN account" on the PlayStation site. That’s pretty suspicious. While not wrong, those who reported should have noticed this change since the Sony website just got updated yesterday. Short version: it looks shady because PC games typically need a PSN account, and if they’re only doing it for bad or minor reasons, that raises red flags.

This brings up some wild conspiracy ideas. People are accusing the developers of being behind it, claiming they think they're cool and dismissing Sony's concerns outright. The article links to a discussion about forced account linking for security reasons. I'll try to identify who seems to be the main figure in this debate.

I don't see that quote repeated anywhere else in this conversation. It appears to be a repetition of the same statement from the article.
