I ran a fix-it program and it told me an error message. The message said the Ethernet cable looks like a phone wire but has bigger connectors at each end. Push this long cable into the slot on the back or side of your computer. Make sure the other end of the cable is connected to the router. If that doesn't work, try using another cable instead. Should I follow what the program told me? Also if any part of the instructions didn't make sense in the brackets, I used a translator because my language isn't English.
You could try another cable. It's not very likely but it will rule it out. Can you copy files between machines at home? Copy big ones so it takes a while. You can see the rates in the network tab of the resource monitor... be careful some are MBYTES and others are Mbits
Sorry for the late reply, I tried almost everything on my PC but nothing fixed the problem. Then when I looked at the error message and unplugged and re-plugged that little wire going into the router, it's working now! On speedtest I get about 94Mb/s which is roughly 7MB/s. Thanks goodness because if it hadn't worked, I might have needed a new ethernet cable to replace mine.
The wire might not fit right in, but shaking it a bit helps make the connection better. If you are on a 100mbps plan, that speed is probably what you get from your internet. Often, people see 94mbps when their actual speed is really high because of how they connect to the cable or router. But if your internet is way faster than 100mbps, it still looks like something in between might be wrong with your setup.
