I purchased a game from Steam using a card. After downloading and installing it, I learned my card isn’t valid for international transactions. This suggests I didn’t actually buy the game. If I want to repay for it with another card, what steps should I take?

Does the game remain available in your collection and can you play it?

Usually, I believe your card should still work for transactions, especially since international payments often require physical use of the card outside your home country.

Typically they keep the payment for a few days. It depends on the financial institution—it either freezes the funds or asks about the account details. The situation varies; for example, with Steam I could play the game until the issue was resolved, then contact my bank to get an international virtual card and pay through it. A simple solution would be to inform your bank about the problem and see if they can resolve it quickly. Alternatively, you might use a virtual credit card on your bank’s website to make purchases worldwide.

Just let it run? It should remain there indefinitely. If any payment problems arise, Valve will reach out to resolve them.

The bank informed me the SMS was sent incorrectly about the transaction being unnecessary. I double-checked with the bank and Steam support, and the transaction was successful. Yay!
