I need this junk taken off my machine. I had to install a hardware driver for Intel graphics that needed a newer Windows 10 version... Now I’m stuck with 21H2. Windows Defender is flagging false positives and deleting useful software, like IDA Pro. By design, Microsoft made the Quarantine Restore button stop working for items labeled as "Threat." They’re aware of this issue and don’t plan to fix it. Pressing the button doesn’t help. There’s a command-line method to recover quarantined files, but I just want the problem gone. Old ways to disable Windows Defender aren’t working—they just change or ignore group policies. I’ve spent time searching for a fix, but all the results are outdated for this version. Anyone have a solution? (No one’s suggesting using Linux.) Please, don’t argue about antivirus value. I’ll run Malwarebytes when it’s convenient.
No, I can't disable the service directly through that method. You can stop it by opening Services, finding the service, and closing the window or using its properties.
Windows Defender receives high ratings and is generally trusted. For IDA Pro's false positives, developers must submit a report to Microsoft for whitelisting or troubleshooting the issue. Only Hex-rays, the creator of IDA, can resolve this. In the meantime, avoid panic—just adjust Windows Defender settings by going to Settings > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Manage Settings (link) > Add or remove exclusion (link at the end).
I achieved my goal yesterday with Defender Control 2.1 and the software restriction policy in Group Policy: No longer Defend0r! Yay!
