Hi everyone!
Here’s what I’ve got so far about my setup:
I have an Intel I7-11700KF processor, an RTX 3080 EVGA FTW 3 ULTRA graphics card, two 32GB GSkill Trident Royal Elite RAM sticks at 4266MHz (they came together in a single package), an Asus Prime B560M-A AC power supply, and a Cougar 850+ Gold PSU.
It’s been a while since this issue popped up. Basically, whenever there’s an update, installation, or system change that needs a restart to finish, the machine just won’t restart properly. Instead, it stays on a solid black screen with no image and a static orange light coming from the motherboard. I’ve been checking online for clues, but it seems like the problem could be anywhere—software, hardware, or maybe even the RAM itself. The most frequent suspects are the RAM modules.
My RAM supports XMP and Dual Channel, and I haven’t had any issues while gaming or using Windows Memtest. I ran a quick Windows memtest just to be safe, but nothing came up either. Restarting the PC normally also triggers the orange light, so it only comes back after a hard reset.
When I do a hard reset and enter safe mode, the screen says: “PC has posted in safe mode press F1…” Then I go into the motherboard settings, save, and quit without making any changes. The PC restarts, boots normally, and works fine in Windows. It’s definitely something that needs attention.
I’m a bit worried because if I keep doing hard resets eventually I might damage something important and end up with a completely non-functional machine. Any suggestions on how to start troubleshooting?

The motherboard features a Q-LED design—red for the CPU, yellow for DRAM, white for VGA, and yellow-green for the Boot Device.
I think I’ve got what I’m seeing; the yellow is actually the DRAM light, though it looks bright orange sometimes.
My update history shows everything was installed successfully, but I can’t see anything in the Event Viewer (checking the Windows log—system, elsewhere should be checked?).
I’ll try the BIOS method you suggested, but with this information any issues might be easier to identify.

The PC was launched in late 2021, everything came with a box so I’m sure it was brand new, meaning the components and system are about one and a half years old.
Also, I’m not certain if this matters, but last year I changed from the 32GB RAM originally included (Corsair Dominators) to the 64GB GSKill. Doing it carelessly and without thinking, I damaged the motherboard and had it replaced with the new one. According to the shop’s tests, the GSKills were fine, only the Corsair ones failed. I can’t remember exactly, but the restart issue didn’t appear right after replacing the board, though it happened later.
Finally, every time I power on the system (turning it off and back), it boots normally without problems. The problem arises when I need to restart due to an update or just for any reason—then it keeps staying on. The RGB stays, the components are fine, but there’s no display and the yellow DRAM orange LED lights up. It only works after a hard reset, then the BIOS restarts and the system loads into Windows properly.

Yes! The on/off switch, keeping it pressed until the device stops working, makes me really anxious because I fear it could permanently damage the system.

If available, initiate a soft on-screen restart. Alternatively, use the Windows Power icon to restart if no on-screen option appears.
A similar delay might occur when restarting through the on-screen restart buttons or the power icon.
You shouldn’t have to keep pressing the reset button during a hard reset. Simply press once, release, and pause.
The system requires time for cleanup before it restarts—this may take a few minutes, but it should proceed.
Possible issues include a malfunctioning restart button or a faulty connection between the motherboard and case switch panel. A loose connection is often the main cause.
Turn off the device, unplug it, open the case, and inspect the motherboard connections.
Also, ensure all other connectors, cards, RAM, and jumpers are securely installed.

There was no similar prolonged delay when restarting through the onscreen Restart buttons or the Windows power icon.
Yesterday, after troubleshooting, I unplugged all components and opened the case, verified every connection, cleared dust, and cleaned everything inside.
I only connected the mouse, keyboard, and monitor (along with a mouse pad, headset, and USB cables for Rocksmith and Xbox).
I executed SFC and DISM commands, and the system reported no errors or corrupted files.
After that, I pressed the Windows icon and the restart button—surprisingly, it worked! Still unsure if an update requiring a restart would affect it, as I don’t see any updates needing such a step.
This issue was logged in the Reliability History under a Windows Critical Event: Hardware Error.
