When launching the terminal, it opens and then automatically hides, showing a folder path of "C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Updates\WindowsService.exe." It seems the startup option isn’t visible to me, and my Windows Security feature isn’t functioning properly. The system runs on Windows 11 with a Ryzen 5 3500 GTX, 16 GB RAM, and 3200MHz processor.

It looks like malware might have been installed through a registry change that triggers a malicious file at startup. Windows Defender removed it, but the reference remains. The fact that your security software won’t open suggests further compromise. Clearing all drives and reinstalling Windows could resolve the issue, though complete removal isn’t guaranteed. Good luck!

Could you share any potential solutions that might restore Windows Security? Also, your computer scan with MRT showed no harmful files.

Start by launching Malwarebytes to attempt cleaning your Windows system. https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download Then refer to this guide to identify the problematic startup entry. https://www.elevenforum.com/t/startup-ap...der.11112/ Afterward, consider performing another malware scan to verify results. Got the malware signature, terminal stays calm, but Windows protection isn't active. Recorded on 2023-10-02 224538.mp4

Updated findings: Malwarebyte identified the name "PUM.Optional.DisabledSecurityCenter." I attempted to isolate it, but the Windows Security Center service isn't restored yet. I'm fine without it right now; it seems malwarebyte is preparing for future support. If a fix appears, please let me know. Also, I checked 'services.msc' and couldn't locate "Security Center" as expected. Thank you for your patience so far.

I added this PUM.Optional/DisabledSecurityCenter setting multiple times via malwarebytes, yet it continues to be flagged.

You can review this article and adjust your registry settings to match the original values. PUM indicates Potentially Unwanted Modifications, serving as a notice that your Security Center is turned off. Keeping this item in quarantine won’t restore it, as it doesn’t reinstall the center automatically. I believe you’re on the correct path to restoring your Windows. A fresh installation remains my suggestion, though it might be challenging unless you have a backup system to handle the interruption. You're welcome.
