Hi, I've been enjoying many free-to-play games for a while, but my new gaming PC arrived last weekend. I'm not sure where to purchase PC games since my old system can't handle them well. For this game—Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, SimCity Watchdog, Need for Speed Rivals—where should I buy it? And if I get a physical copy, do I need to use the CD during play like on a console?

Purchase them from Steam or Origin—I believe all the titles you mentioned are available there.

Steam is the primary platform for most titles, with origins likely tied to EA games. For older releases, visit GOG.com, and you can also browse the modest store that specializes in indie projects rather than AAA titles, though it does carry some.

If you purchase a game through Origin or Steam and lose your account, you may still receive the game depending on the platform's policies. Check your Steam account settings or contact Steam support for specific guidance.

You're wondering if someone else could access your account. Steam uses two-factor authentication by default to protect it. The reason behind this is unclear, but it's meant to enhance security.

When purchasing the game on Origin or Steam, you don’t always need to log in to Origin/Steam to play. If you download the game, it will typically work directly within Steam without requiring a login for each session. The game launcher may appear, but it doesn’t necessarily restrict play to Steam.

You can enable auto-login via steam or origin when the game loads for clearer access, though they will open automatically when you begin playing.

You can enjoy your games in "Offline Mode," where you remain connected to Steam but without the usual interaction between the platform and the game. For example, playing a game while logged into Steam will still award you achievements and in-game rewards that update your Steam profile. In Offline mode, these features won't work (at least I'm certain of it).
