I initially paid little attention to internet speed or latency. I simply purchased what my ISP recommended and connected the router they provided. Recently, I configured a NAS server and an Ubuntu machine for Jellyfin and other tasks. I observed that uploading files from one computer via Ethernet directly to the switch was slower than the other setup. I began researching and performed speed tests online. The results showed inconsistent performance depending on the connection type and latency. One setup averaged around 650 MBPS with 10ms download and 400MBPS with 90ms upload, while the other averaged 300MBPS with 2ms download and 260MBPS with 5ms upload. I’m puzzled about why the speeds swapped despite both being on the same switch and using similar hardware. The devices are Dell laptops placed just a couple of centimeters apart. Any suggestions or insights would be appreciated.

The source machines have specific processors for their CPUs. This might limit performance.
